Everything Rice Krispie Treat

Then you need a fast and easy to make dessert that’s a true crowd pleaser. Everyone loves a simple Rice Krispie Treat, but this one is amped up and over-the-top AND it is quick to make.

I created this recipe by combining ingredients and flavors that my family loves. It’s a layered dessert bar that is a basic Rice Krispie treat that’s topped with old-fashioned oats, salted caramel, mini chocolate chips, toasted almonds and tart dried cranberries! It can only be called “EVERYTHING” Dessert Treat

The crispy, gooey, buttery, sweet, salty, crunchy, chocolate, tart bite of this dessert bar will “WOW” all of your tastebuds!

Line a half baking sheet pan (11×17) with buttered parchment, or a silicone mat. Make sure the edges of the pan are also buttered or you can coat with cooking oil spray.

After making traditional Rice Krispie treats, (I just microwave my butter and marshmallows and then stir in the cereal), spread and press the Rice Krispie mixture into the pan. Either use buttered hands or buttered piece of parchment paper to squish the treats into an even layer.

Preheat oven to 425° F. Chop your raw almonds and toast them for about 3 minutes on a sheet pan in the hot oven. (Toasted nuts taste better, so don’t skip this step!) Set the nuts aside but leave the oven on.

Sprinkle your cup of old-fashioned oats on top of your Rice Krispie treat layer.

Melt brown sugar and butter together with salt to make the caramel.

Use medium high heat and cook the caramel for a few minutes until it is bubbly and turned a golden caramel color. Stir this constantly.

You may also notice the mixture wanting to separate a bit.

Pour the hot caramel all over the Rice Krispie treats and spread it to the edges. Place pan into the 425° F oven for just a few minutes until the caramel starts to bubble.

Be careful and watch, you don’t want to overheat and burn the caramel!

Pull pan out of the oven. While still hot, sprinkle with mini chocolate chips.

Then sprinkle a layer of toasted chopped almonds

It needs to cool, so you can cut into squares. If you’re in a hurry, you can cool it quickly for 20 minutes in the freezer.

To finish it off, add a sprinkling of dried cranberries on top. You may have to press these in with your hands.

Everything Rice Krispie Dessert Treat

A fast dessert for a crowd. The crispy, gooey, buttery, sweet, salty, crunchy, chocolate, tart bite of this dessert bar will “WOW” all of your tastebuds and your guests!

Ingredients

  • 10 oz marshmallows
  • 3 Tbsp butter plus extra for pan
  • 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped raw almonds
  • 1 cup dried cranberries

Instructions

  1. Line a half baking sheet pan (11×17) with a silicone mat. Make sure the edges of the pan are also buttered.
  2. Make traditional Rice Krispie treats by microwaving 3 Tbsp butter and marshmallows on high for 2 minutes in large bowl. Stir in the Rice Krispie cereal.
  3. Work quickly to spread and press the Rice Krispie mixture into the prepared pan.
  4. Preheat oven to 425° F. Toast almonds for about 3 minutes on a sheet pan in the hot oven. Set the nuts aside but leave the oven on.
  5. Sprinkle your cup of old-fashioned oats on top of your Rice Krispie treat layer.
  6. Melt brown sugar and 2 sticks of butter together with salt to make the caramel. While stirring constantly, use medium high heat and cook the caramel for a few minutes until it is bubbly and turned a golden caramel color.
  7. Pour the hot caramel all over the Rice Krispie treats and spread it to the edges of the pan.
  8. Place pan into the 425° F oven for just a few minutes until the caramel starts to bubble.
  9. Pull pan out of the oven. While still hot, sprinkle with mini chocolate chips.
  10. Sprinkle a layer of toasted chopped almonds.
